DIPLOMA EDUCATION

The diploma education is carried out according to the programs, confirmed by the Ministry of Public Health of the Russian Federation in the following specialities:

1. Medicine

Training of students in the speciality "Medicine" is carried out at 47 departments of the University by 370 teachers, among them 4 honored scientists of the Russian Federation, 1 correspondent member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, more than 30 academicians and correspondent members of different academies, including international ones, 66 D. Sc. and over 200 Ph. D. At the departments of the clinical profile there work 7 honored doctors of the Russian Federation. All the teachers have the higher or the first medical category. The teachers of the medical faculty have written more than 60 monographs and textbooks, hundreds of teaching-methodical manuals.

In the teaching process many progressive methods and forms of education are used, for example situational problems, business games including the games in the computer variant, course and diploma projects. In the University there has been made a good base of modern computer techniques that is replenished with new machines annually. A program of standardized disciplinary computer test has been worked out. On this basis all departments work out subject and disciplinary tests for diagnostics of subject knowledge and teaching students. Standardized professional tests are worked out now. In the future - working out of the intellectual computer programmes, a high level of integration of all the disciplines, development of students' productive thinking.

2. Pharmacy

The Pharmaceutical faculty was opened in 1996. During 38 of activity of the faculty schools of scientific workers have been made. They do research in the fields of synthesis, pharmaceutical and chemical-toxicological analysis, and working out new modern medicinal forms, pharmacognostic research, investigations of the market of medical and pharmaceutical goods. Future pharmacists acquire thorough knowledge at 28 departments, such as departments of general and inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, analytic chemistry, pathological physiology, botany, physical and colloid chemistry; in the sphere of general professional disciplines at the departments of general hygiene, pharmacology, clinical pharmacology, military and extreme medicine, toxicological chemistry, medical and pharmaceutical merchandise.

3. Stomatology

The stomatological faculty of Kursk State Medical University was opened in 1997. The students of the medical faculty study 57 subjects. They include obligatory for all students of medical universities human anatomy, medical biology, histology, pathological anatomy, normal and pathological physiology, and a number of disciplines at clinical departments: internal and surgical diseases, dermatovenerology, neurology, psychiatry, otorhinolaryngology. At the faculty there are 176 Ph. D. and 58 professors. The graduating departments are the department of surgical and therapeutic stomatology of KSMU and the department of orthopedic stomatology with the course of children stomatology. Students start special training at these departments the third semester.

The training bases of the faculty - the department of maxillofacial surgery at the regional clinical hospital, the regional stomatological polyclinic, clinical practices in the stomatological polyclinics and schools in Kursk. The faculty has its own stomatological polyclinic.

At present foreign students are trained in three specialities: "Medicine", "Pharmacy" and "Stomatology". After graduation on the speciality "Medicine" the diploma of a Doctor of Medicine is awarded,on the speciality "Pharmacy" - the diploma of a Magister of Pharmacy, on the speciality "Stomatology" - the diploma of a Doctor of Stomatology.

POST-DIPLOMA EDUCATION

The post-diploma education is carried out according to the programs confirmed by the Ministry of Public Health of the Russian Federation considering the peculiarities of training specialists for every country.

Post-graduate course with defending a dissertation:
duration of the course - 3 years. After the graduation the degree of a PH. D is awarded.

Internship:
duration of the course - 1 year;

Residency:
duration of the course – 2- 5 years.

Post-diploma education of foreign citizens at KSMU began in 1992. At present about 30 interns, residents and postgraduates study in English or in Russian media at the University. Four foreign postgraduate students have defended theses for a Ph.D degree.
