PUSHKIN’S APPRECIATION EVENING

      On the 3^rd of June 2025, an event took place to commemorate Alexander Pushkin  226 years anniversary. A group of students studying in third year from the International Medical Institute had taken part in this event organized by Department of Pharmacology.

        Every year on June 6, our country celebrates the Day of the Russian language. And this not just domestic holiday, because it has an international status. The language of Pushkin and Dostoevsky is not the property of the Russian people alone. In most of the post-Soviet space, despite everything, it still remains the language of interethnic communication.

         The date for it was not chosen arbitrarily. June 6 became the Day of the Russian  language  –  it was then in 1799 that the great Russian, poet, playwright and prose writer Alexandr Sergeevich Pushkin was born. And also, as the leading domestic and foreign linguists recognized, this man laid the foundations of the modern Russian language in his work. And now it exists in approximately the same form in which it was organized and streamlined by our outstanding compatriot.

         Therefore, today’s holiday has a double name. This is not only the day of the Rusian language, but also the Pushkin Day of Russia. Of course, our language is not static  – it lives and develops.  New words and expressions appear in it, others, on the contrary, become obsolete and go out of use.
           Interpretation of cultures also takes place  – a process when speakers of one language borrow something from another. In some cases, this enriches our speech, and in some it simply clogs it.  For example, it is not difficult to notice the dominance of anglicisms in the Russian language, many of which can be completely replaced by synonyms from native speech, and without loss of meaning.

      By this event students joined Pushkin’s heritage, got acquainted with the work of the one of Russia's most celebrated poets of all times and touched to the genius lines of his poems.
